Thank you to everyone who came along to our second ExeterSOUP. It was fantastic to see so our stalwart supporters and to hear about some of the brilliant work of local groups in Exeter.
Voters at SOUP decided to fund Nightstop who walked away with £70 (even more with gift aid). Nightstop provides same day emergency overnight accommodation for young homeless people, between the ages of 16-25, in the homes of volunteer hosts who have been trained and vetted and they will use the money to help keep this project running. They will update us in 6 months time so that we can hear about the difference our money made.
If so, then ExeterSOUP could help…
The aim of each meeting is to provide small charities/voluntary groups with an opportunity to fund raise relatively small amounts of money for self-contained projects.
It’s based on a project in Detroit which has been very successful. Everyone pays £5 on the door for soup and a bowl of salad (made by volunteers from donated produce), and four charities pitch their causes for 5 minutes each. At the end of the evening, the charity with the most votes goes home with the door money. The last event raised over £250 for the chosen charity, not bad for 5 minutes work.
The first ExeterSOUP went so well that we have decided to do it again. Thanks to the generosity of St Sidwells Community Centre the next ExeterSOUP will be held on the 9th September 2015 from 6pm to 8.30pm. For further information or to get involved please email email@example.com or message me via twitter.
There is only one day to go until the first ExeterSOUP at St Sidwell’s Community Centre (17th June 2015, 6.30-8.30). St Sidwell’s is on St Sidwell Street in Exeter City Centre, very close to the NHS Walk in Centre. We have four fantastic local causes ready to talk to you so come along and meet them tomorrow.
